Gokaiger DX Key Set

Wow, interesting.  As I sit here whiling away some time at home, I notice that the photos for this review I took on Boxing Day 2012.  Pretty much a year ago give or take 2 days of me typing this.  Funny old world.

These are some Ranger Keys, which when combined with the Mobirates allows members of the Super Sentai team to change into their super powered modes.  These keys interact with the toy Mobirates so after getting the Legends phone for the better half as a Christmas present last year (and some keys to go with it), I got a little excited and thought that a collection of Ranger Keys would be cool.  And cheap.

Sadly I haven’t gotten too far as it turns out they are not that cheap after all.  One day I will get the members of Battle Fever!  I swear it!  I did manage to get the Gokaigers (must have of course) and Himitsu Sentai Goranger as well as some odds and ends,  since they aren’t all grouped together in teams.

Incidentally, I just discovered that the Gokaigers are going to be ther powered up forms for the Power Rangers Megaforce, well, when it starts in Feb 2014 anyway.  Cleverly called Power Rangers Super Megaforce, I might actually watch it.  It seems they are making a different type of Ranger key too.  Oooooooh!

Let’s have a looksee at the Gokaiger in key form then shall we?

The come in (generally) packs of five and as I said before, not always in teams.  I think this set is a bit special as I have another GokaiRed key that came with my “Gokager DX Nari kiri” set (has some keys, a mobirates and a belt for transformation time!) and that one isn’t as ‘blingy.”

The box has an image of each key and Ranger on the back with a nice little blurb about the type of character they are and how they interact with the various toys in the line. Much like the show, if you have the weapons, you can plug the keys in for various light and sound effects.  Rather cool really.

The Keys are simple little toys with swivels at the elbows and one hinge at the waist to expose the key part, which is how the mobirates can distinguish between the different keys/characters.

They’re all the same figure, aside from the change in head.  The girls (pink and yellow) look like they are bulkier in the chest and waits, but it’s an optical illusion.  The guys have a slightly shinier paint, almost metallic in a way , compared to the other Gokaiger Key I have.

Lift the arms up and flip up the legs for Key mode.  Much to my better half’s annoyance, they don’t spring up in one click but hey, if they did they’d be more expensive (and cooler).

The camera flash really brings out the metallic stickers that these keys have over the normal ones. Wooo!

On a closer inspection, one can see that the helmets are all different.

Aw cute.  That pretty much is all there is to these keys.  Nice bit of different sculpting on the helmets, but a stock standard body for them and a simple but effective gimmick, in that they work with any other Gokaiger role playing toys you might have.

I must admit that I do want some more of other teams.  They would looks nice all lined up but sadly some of them are rather expensive, so I am passing them by.  Believe me, these little suckers are addictive!
