Legacy Breakdown; A review

Here we are ladies and gentlethings, the last of the Stunticons has arrived!  Not only that, it is my favourite character!  Oh boy oh boy, the Legacy Stunticons have been pretty good so far and gotten some nice homage action going, I sure do hope they gave my beloved Breakdown the respect he deserves!  I mean, the vehicle modes are all pretty different, while I can easily accept using the same bas transformation schematic, surely, surely they wouldn't just use a repaint and call it a day right?

Legacy Deadend, A Review

Deadend was my second favourite car of the Stunticons, the reason?  Well it all stems down to his go-fast stripe that ran along the top of the car.  Damn, that my friends was the absolute PEAK of top class 80s car coolness.  It immediately elevated the ranking of a car in my mind.  A Lamborghini Contache with a stripe like Deadend's would have me dying from too many nerdgasms I suspect.

Now with that imagery freshly planted in your minds, let's take a wee gander at Deadend.

Power of the Primes Rippersnapper review

Wow, it’s been a while since I started talking about these guys, time to get back to it, it would seem.

Power of the primes was a bit of a left over line for me.  It had a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  One of the 'thats' were combiners though, so that's cool.  Even better was that it involved my beloved Terrorcons!  HUZZAH!

So far I’ve covered Sinnnertwin and Cutthroat and today I’m gonna have a look at my beloved Ripppersnapper.  I had this guy as a kid and was terribly traumatised when I dropped his tiny little cyclone gun pistol outside somewhere, never to be seen again.  It was bad man, I was bawling like a sprinkler with severe emotional issues.

So, I have a nostalgic connection to RS here.

Let’s take a look!

Legacy Dragstrip, A review.

Crappy editing dot com

I heard about the Legacy Stunticons and a rumour soon started wafting about the internet saying that Motormaster's trailer would be a skeleton for Menasor.  I immediately thought, hey that sounds cool and thus, another quest for Stunticons starts.

I previously thought the Unite Warriors Stunticons were fairly good.  I still feel this way, but looking at these Legacy ones, they are a definite different breed.  Today I'll be looking at Dragstrip.  The Unite Warrior one was pretty good for a modern take of the character.  The Animated one was an Arcee re-colour which managed to work reasonably well.  Let's check this new one out.

Yes, I like the Stunticons...

POTP Slag Figure Review.

Much innuendo

Slag was actually one of the Dinobots I owned as a younger me, to be specific, I had the G2 green one somehow, perhaps soon after I had discovered the wonders of Ebay and I bought a  not so good condition blue Grimlock (I suspect I got ripped off).  It was at the moment, I discovered that not ALL Dinobots were equal.  While I had played with a friend’s Grimlock, Swoop and my own Snarl while also knowing that Sludge was  very similar to Grimlcok, I had NO idea about Slag.

Getting my hands on the G2 one showed me that it was not a very good toy.  While the dinosaur mode was (naturally) awesome, robot mode left a lot to be desired.

This however is not a review of the G1/G2 toy.  I got the Power of the Primes version soon after buying Sludge as I was wondering how he would turn out, after all the bar was pretty low.  Luckily this guy is a pretty nice upgrade.

POTP Sinnertwin review

*to tide you over while I work on the translation of Super Megatron comics, read this *

After reviewing Snarl and the other Dinobots, I’m making my way through the Terrorcons.  Each review will have a little bit more gushing about them, as they truly captured my imagination as a kid.
Despite only owning two.

Sinnertwin here was one I always wanted (along with all the rest).  I mean what's not to love about a two headed dog thing Transformer.  Not hiding in the bushes of love though.  I love his names.  Actually I think most of the Terrorcons got really good names overall.  Cutthroat sounds like a pirate.  Sinnertwin sounds bad and double trouble, Rippersnapper sharp and violent, Hun-grr erm, gluttonous and Blot… Um. well...

Sinnertwin, that’s a cool name hey?

POTP Swoop, Quick N Nasty review

SwoopTheLeg

Actually, this doesn’t really fall into my Quick N Nasty category as I used my camera and not the phone, but meh, Whatevs.

Ladies and Gents, I’d like to use this post to have a look at Power Of the Primes Deluxe Swoop.    I’ve always had a thing for the Dinobots.  I just really think I love mechanical beast or monster modes.  Beast Wars didn’t really do it for me, but did I love the look of the Transmetals?  (yes I did).

The Power of the Primes line was an odd one in my mind.  It kind of felt like a bit-of-this-a-bit-of-that line.  Lots of combiner limbs, that made it too late into Combiner Wars, some weird change to the headmaster concept so they can keep up with Titans Returns and it added nothing new ( even the pretender shells were a continuation of the little droned from TR).  While I like the Combiner Wars connection process, I think they could have integrated the Primes into the line a bit better.  For example, deluxe figures all came with “Prime Armour” which is a combiner mode hand and you plug the Prime into that.  Whereas the Voyagers (usually combiner main body pieces/group leaders) had a section for connecting a prime or a Matrix of ~~~something~~~ directly into the figure.  I personally would have preferred that the Matrix/Prime just plugged straight into the chest of all characters, or something, instead of having to plug a rather large and not cool looking thing onto them….

Anyway, getting back on track, Swoop was one of the many Dinobots I wanted as a kid and never got.  I only got the Red Slag from G2 back in the olden days, so I was pleased to see a very G1 looking Swoop show up.  How is he overall?

Energon Hot Shot, Reflective Review

While trawling through an old back up drive, I managed to find a little project of mine that I worked on while in uni.  It was a basic and HTML programmed page for my own hosted Transformers review page.  Oh the chuckles I had while looking at this.  So, since I am still alive but sadly have less time for blogging, I thought I would post what I did there on here.  Slightly changed as I had a few text links linked to pictures, and it’s just easier to embed pictures in blogger.  So here we go.  Enjoy my naïve views of toys when I was a younger grumpy old man.  Enjoy the work of my wonderful 3.2 megapxiel camera when I had very little idea how to use it.

First Review I’ll post will be for (drum roll please)  ENERGON HOTSHOT.

Incidentally, that’s the style of the page I was going for at the time.

Something Something Skull Something Spoo

SkullCruncherHead
I always preferred the Decepticon Headmasters over the Autobot ones.  I think it’s because the Autobots all looked like random Space vehicles, a pet hate of mine that I seem to have been ranting on about a lot lately.

Luckily the Decepticons managed to connect to my love of robot animals (Dinobots are the top baby!) so the weird versions of the Decepticon HMs manage to get off scot-free.  I mean, as a kid, I seriously doubted whether or not Mindwipe was a bat.  How many bats have a big spiked looking tail?

Well, that was a bad introduction for announcing the impending Skull(cruncher) review.  I’m a bit torn, his Japanese name is Skull, but Skullcruncher sounds much cooler (while being quite a bit longer to type as well.).  Hasbro named him Skullsmasher, but luckily I don’t have to deal with that, as his lovely JP box has Katakana Skull and English written Skullcruncher.  Skullcruncher it is. Sometimes.

TAV15 Lockdown

TAVLockdown (15)
Oh TAV. your craziness makes me happy.  After the surprising joy of TAV Swoop, I am pleased to announce the fact that I have my grubby mitts on TAV Lockdown.  Lockdown was the main figure that made me buy TAV Swoop, so I guess I am kind of working backwards from this.  But Anyway…

TAV Lockdown (hereby referred to as Lockdown or LD), was one that really took my eye.  I think I have made it known that I like the Animated toy line and this version, he has a really nice paint job for robot mode.  I really am a sucker for an insignia used in clever ways, like Dion and Dropkick.

ALockdownbio
Sadly though, this goes against the wishes of Derrick J Wyatt, who has stated he was unhappy with the paint job because of SPOILER reasons.  Can that be a spoiler?  Can there really be spoilers on a dead line now? Moving on.

Despite the objections, I think the paint job looks rather nice.  He is packaged in robot mode and now that I think about it, this is the 6th version of this toy that I own.  It’s quite nice (obviously) and rather clever.  Remember folks, that this guy is still a deluxe figure and yet he stand in robot mode as tall as other voyagers!

Tf Prime, Deluxe Ratchet review

Ratchet Head
Thanks to a good pal o mine who went to Singapore, this cool little Prime version of ratchet has made his way into my hands.  Since I am all excited about this video shenanagins and had some quiet time, and the toy in my hands, I have whipped up a little video review.  Well, 13 minute ‘little’ video review.

I will also go on like I normally do, since I get more enjoyment from photographing the toys than videoing them.  I have also now worked out what it is that is ‘Unsatisfying’ his transformation, which I wasn’t sure of when doing the video.

All these Prime toys look cool stomping around the place.  Inspired to create a Reservoir Dogs poster inspired pose.   Hmm, I am not so great at the after photo editing it would seem Smile with tongue out

Ironfist.. errr, I mean Fisitron!

IMG_7158

To keep the ball rolling on the Botcon 2011 figures and because I suspect my box ‘o’ Stunticons will be here soon, I have done these pictures NOW.  And it helps that Fisitron is a recolour of Ironhide and Ratchet, which I have covered before.

Animated Cheetor. Shmexy to the maxx!!

xhhet2
Regular readers of my blog (I thank you ) will know how much I love the Animated series of Transformers, so I think it is only fair to put a fan-boy-alert in this review.  Animated Cheetor here is a recolour of my favourite figure of the line.  He is Blurr with a new head and I love the Blurr mould the most.

Not another Rodimus?!?!??

BRhead
As I am trying to finish off some collecting, I thought I would hunt down the limited Hyper Hobby edition of Rodimus from the Animated series.  They have done a black version.  Cleverly named Black Rodimus.  Is it any good, or just a lame attempt at a special.  Let’s have a look shall we?

Dark Of the Moon Laserbeak

LBhead
I picked this guy up as I am a bit of a sucker for Soundwave’s minions.  After all I bought the awful Revenge of the Fallen Ravage and then again when they released him with chrome.  Ravage was a crappy Transformer.  Nice figure of the character but his ‘vehicle’ mode was poor.  How does Laserbeak do?  Read on…

Zoweee! It’s Generations Warpath!!!!

WPhead
OK, I managed to get some shots of this guy and I have to say, I like it!  He is chunky and is a great homage to The original Warpath.  I tells ya, this is what the Generations/Henkei/Classics Universe should be about baby!!

KaBlam! Classic Transformer Acquistiton

Well, maybe not quite.  I got the Generations release of Warpath the other day and was so impressed I had to share it with the world!

It’s a great toy, newly updated with nice articulation features and yet it still looks like Warpath.  An update that is spot on.  Robot mode is cool.  Vehicle mode has him transform into an H-tank.  Transformers seem to bust out a fair few H-Tanks, and yet I have never seen a real one.  If any one has any pictures of an H-tank, please link me up!

I will get around to a gallery and review when I can.  Hopefully soon, coz I love this guy POW!

This new Wreck-Gar is coooool!

Having spent some time messing around with Wreck-Gar, I have come to the conclusion that I really, really like it!  Good face, moustache hair, and his legs, OMG, his legs.
