Merry Christmas!

I (Tets), Jack, Starscream, Transformers mini-Satan (an anagram of Santa no less…) and Santa of course would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thanks for reading and I hope to add more as the years go on!

Jack better watch out! Looks like Starscream is making a move for the present!

Tree interpretations.

Over the past few months that are encompassed within the realm of “Christmas,”  I have noticed and interesting trend in the old Christmas Tree.

Today, being Christmas eve, I thought I would share the ones that I was most impressed with.

Blowing my own trumpet

Well actually having it blown for me.

I was pleased to recieve a Zombie Rabbit Award from a fellow blogger.   eerieeriksreviews kindly gave me one. (More about the Zombie Rabbit Award here) and it was nice to recieve it from a fellow blogger.

I will admit, despite not originally having much interest in beer and horror movies, I do find the blog most amusingly written and an enjoyable read, so 'twas a good feeling indeed.

I would have never known about beer brewed from pumpkins.  Who woulda thunk it!

Cheers Drunketh, much appreciated!  To recieve a bit of recognition for having fun can't really go bad hey?

Chrazy Christmas Decorations.

So, I have been a bit quieter this Christmas compared to the last.  Obviously the horror of the Advent Calender chocolate has slowed me down.

Oh and work has been crazy as well.

Today though I would like to add some strange Xmas trinkets I spied whilst wandering the shops. Most of these are various baubles for hanging on the old Chrimbo tree, what struck me as odd was that not many of them had a Christmas feel to them…

Clever Cup cakes

So, it’s Christmas time and bad food is being eaten all over the place.  On a personal note, I have been puzzled by the rather sudden rise in the popularity of cup cakes that has taken the world, well Australia at the very least, by storm.

Why?  They just seem to be a standard sponge base of either vanilla or chocolate with a sickening amount of icing on the top (Personally I prefer butter icing over plastic icing).  I have seen a few come through work as there has been many made for home Christmas parties and not consumed.

One such episode happened today in fact.  I was however impressed with the look of these cup cakes.

19122011(002)

Looks a bit like a frog, but think of the blue, and oh is that a cookie?  Waitasecond…

19122011(001)19122011

From the right angle, they looks remarkably like Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster!

Despite my curiosity and slight dislike for cupcakes (more of a muffin guy myself), I take my hat off to my workmate who cooked these little blighters up!

Well done and bravo!

Sleek & Slippery–Animated Oilslick

OShd

Oilslick from the Animated Cartoon only featured in one episode, but we managed to get a toy of him.  Omega Supreme was a major player in quite a few episodes and he is not available.  Odd.  Oilslick though is a very nice little figure, and the character has a lot of potential.  Again, another bit of evidence that shows Animated finished before it’s time.

Holiday Central. The main List of where.

This is the post that links my admittedly slow attempt at blogging my Wildflower holiday.  Originally I meant to do it ON the holiday, but slow USB modems, the country and lack of coverage, as well as many late nights and need for sleep foiled that idea.

The whole holiday from day 1 to end covered a large amount of the state.
Holiday Mapmarked

Now THAT is a Collector’s Edition

SGhd
Sonic Generations.

I was hoping there would be a special edition of Sonic Generations.  It is for Sonics 20th Birthday, so I expected something great.  Especially considering how they actually did a nice little version for the 10th Anniversary with Sonic Adventure 2, and that was the times when extra additions were rare!  However, I was worried, as until say two months or so before release, my googling of ‘special edition sonic generations’ only provided me with information about the game coming with some free DLC.  Well, that doesn’t make a special edition in my books.

So I was pleased as punch when I saw this baby pop up on the SEGA blog!  And it’s a beauty too!

Final Day–Caversham Park and Chocolate factory

Ok here we are on the final day of my wild flower tour guiding and since we had covered most of the flower possibilities of the state, we decided to head on over to Caversham Wildlife Park in Whiteman Park.  Whiteman Park is a national park and is known to have flowers as well.  Convenient isn’t it?

HOLY GRAIL GET!!! Knuckles Chaotix!!

OMG! I finally bagged one of these bad boys!  I have been eyeing these off for years now…  Not entirely sure how many, not as many as my fairly active search for Castlevania; Symphony of the Night for the Saturn (5 years for those playing at home), but definitely second.

Well, something tells me its not entirely finished.

IMG_0266

Oh Man! Look at that.  Seeeeeeexxxxyyyy!!  It’s the Japanese version of Knuckles Chaotix.   I notice the Japanese name of the game is just “Chaotix ~ Featuring Knuckles the Echidna.”

I think I may still want the English box as well, but it has lessened somewhat after finding this for a not incredibly ridiculous price.  Oddly this came from France of all places.  The problem with finding 32X games stems from their rarity as the 32X flopped fairly quickly, the boxes are completely cardboard and Chaotix appears to be the one everyone wants.

It plays similarly to Sonic the Hedgehog, but you have a partner tethered to you and you can uses the tether much like a bungee chord to fling your way through the levels.  It introduced the Chaotix characters, such as Mighty the Armadillo, Vector the Crocodile, Charmy the Bee, and my favourite, Espio the Chameleon.  Oh and Heavy and Bomb, who were robots made by Robotnik.  The game play was interesting, but the level design was bland and since it has a theme park ride er, theme, it gave you a random level selector thing.

Having played this on emulators, I will admit that it is not all that “Must play more-ish.”  Mainly die to the lack of bad guys in the levels and the fact that  due to the level design, you just kind of assume you need to go right, and once you can’t go right anymore, it must be up and right.  Very strange.  Hard to describe to be honest.  I suggest some video footage would be the way to go.

IMG_0267

The back of the box. Nice little map of the Island you’re on for the game.  In Chunky polygons too!

IMG_0268

Included are the stuff from original release.  The cart, holder (made from cardboard), instructions, anket (survey card) and a flier advertising other games.  Oh the memories!

Overall I am really impressed with this buy.  A good price and it means a heck of a lot to me to get one.  FINALLY!

Not that I am likely to get my 32X running… assuming it would work…  But hey, I did just boot up my Saturn fro some Sega Rally earlier today, so you never know what might happen…

Sonic CD Soundtrack review

Sncdhd

Oh hoo hooo hooo!  I nabbed this off of Amazon Japan since I have been all a flutter over the spiky blue blur as of late.  When it arrived in the post, I stopped and thought, “Why did I buy this?”  You see, I already have the Mega CD game, and since the mega CD just used normal audio tracks for most of the music, one can get the soundtrack by playing them straight off the game disc…

Kings Park and Perthian Adventures

And ramen!
And so with our travels in the country done, we made our way to looking at the sights of Perth and the joys it beholds.  Since it was a flower tour we were conducting, it goes without saying that we had to head off to Kings Park’s Wildflower Festival!

Geraldton, Mullewa and Home. A marathon!

Feeling relaxed and refreshed after a good night’s sleep, we arose early and packed our stuff into the Monster again.  Time to make our way back to Perth.  It was shame that we didn’t plan to spend a couple more days in the country somewhere as this final day felt a bit rushed for me.

Bad guys beware! Batarang controller!!!

Bathead

Man I have been looking forward to Batman: Arkham City for aaaaaaaggggggeeeeesss!  Arkham Asylum was brilliant!  I even started the Hard game mode after finishing it, it was that fun.  Everything from the stealth sections to the awesomely clever free flow combat was fun fun fun!  So when I friend rocked up with this baby, I had to investigate.

Today’s gets.

Still no time to enjoy.  My last gets post was too long, o I thought I would put thee guys into a new one.

IMG_0116

Ok, it’s all about gaming today!

Original SNES cart, instructions and box for Chrono Trigger!  Boooyah! Never had a SNES and can’t use, but a nice addition to my set.

Fantasy Zone collection for my Saturn.  Opa-Opa rules! Waku-Waku 7 which I hoope is a quirky but cool Streetfighter-esque game.  I was surprised to find that it came with the 4MB Ram cart as well!  Great!  Another for my collection, I already have about 4, but another can’t really hurt!

And a PS3 Batarang Controller.  Feels nice, with a somewhat 360 ish setup.  I remember thinking the 360 had a good controller for FPS’s so am looking forward to giving it a crank on COD World at War!  Or Fallout 3, Duke Nukem, and any others I come across.  It has nice flashy lights too!  review when I get to it….

Sigh.  Back to packing.

Latest goodies. Little time for fun…

These arrived over the past week.  Sadly though with an imminent moving of abode on the plans, I have very little time to enjoy them.

IMG_0115
Firstly we have Sonic Underground DVD box set.  Which is complete.  I never watched Sonic underground, mainly because it looked terribly weird.  Sonic has siblings? And is a Prince of the realm?  In a Band?  How do they come up with these concepts…  I do look forward to watching it though.

Shin Shinobiden (or Shinobi X as it released in the English speaking lands) fro my Sega Saturn.  A L-R shooter, much like all other games of the Shinobi series, but with digitised sprites far the characters.  Much like Mortal Kombat 1, 2 & 3.  Might have been cool in the day (unlikely) but looks a bit naff now, there is something odd about the look of the animation.  A nice addition to my collection for amusement sake.  It has cheesy cut scenes acted out as well. Hilarious!!

GI Hoe Specialist Trakker.  I usually have no interest in GI Joe, but this guy has an interesting history.  Much like the Machine-Men (Gobots) toys of the 80’s making a crossover into the Transformers universe (EG BugBite in the Botcon “Game of Deception” and Fracture, a black repaint of Mirage for the Movie 1 line), Trakker is Matt Trakker, the leader of M.A.S.K.  He used to get around n a sports car which had gull wing doors and it could fly with jets.  He had a mask called Spectrum which could project holograms and fought against the evil V.E.N.O.M and Myles Mayhem (who cameos in the Animated Allspark Almanac).

Hatchet from the Movie 3 Line of Transformers.  A nice ‘dread’ TF.  It’s a small size, erm Commander class I think it is called, but equivalent to scout size in the old scale.  Compact little jet mode, and a cool animalistic robot mode.  Paint it white and you have Sky-Lynx.

Finally, Batman: Arkham City.  After Arkham Asylum, there was no way I was going to miss out on this baby.  I got a steel book edition which has a nice cover.  Absolutely incredible game let down only by the crappy TV i have been playing it when not at home.  OH and the annoying message telling me how to counter blade attacks, which I rarely do successfully, so I just go for the dodge, but the message won’t go away, blocking my view of the battle.  Therefore leading to a slap in the face and the end of my combo run…

Into the city, Taka’s kitchen and Ramen?

Another trip into the city and another exciting adventure (I guess).

I love Ramen, the delightful noodle soup dish originally from China but adopted by Japan.  Sadly here in Perth, Ramen is notoriously hard to come across.  Then I  heard about a place called Taka’s kitchen whipping out some ramen.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 Soundtrack!!

s12head

I spied this on amazon.co.jp while looking for ltd edition Sonic Generations and was quite surprised.  What is it?  Well, it happens to be the music from Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 compiled on a CD.  Being a mad Sonic fan (especially his Megadrive outings) I had to nab this.

Classic Sonic & Motobug by Jazwares

cshd

Oooooo! It’s fat little chubby Sonic!  Just the way I like him.  For the imminent release of the brilliant looking Sonic Generations game, the good people at Jazwares have made some action figures! OH YEH!  I ordered a bunch online and then by a lucky chance found a limited selection locally!  So, I nabbed the 3 inch sized Classic Sonic and the next day I went back and got Tails.

So now I have a cute little gallery for this little guy.  Hmmm, retro!

Today’s gets… OCD Alert!

Classic Tails, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus collection and a gacha Linebeck!!  Linebeck, from Zelda and the Phantom Hour Glass comes with a ruppee!  Awesome!

Read on for a Game comparison.

From Denham to Monkey Mia, and beyond!! (Geraldton)

So after a fantastic night at Denham looking at incredible stars, seeing the Milky way after many years and a good nights sleep, we awoke to a beautiful day and some early breakfast.  We then packed our things to head north to Monkey Mia.  Monkey Mia is known for the Dolphin feeding and has a reserve set aside fro their protection.  It has also become a place of dolphin study.

Super Mega Getz!!

IMG_9708

Woo hoo hoo hoo! Lookit that!

Masterpiece 10, Convoy (another Masterpiece Convoy??), Figma Lynette Bishop from Strike Witches, Madoka Kaname from some anime, Revoltech War Machine, so he can accompany Iron Man and ‘The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.  All of it!  65 episodes of some Looney Toons type entertainment featuring Sonic.  I don’t remember it being this weird, but it has made me laugh a couple of times.

Ico/Wanda and the Colossus Ltd Box

IMG_9665
Ok, I can’t contain my excitement about his set.  It is the release of the brilliant games from the PS2, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.  This is the Japanese release which has a super sexy box set and is the enhanced version for the PS3.   I raved on about how Shadow of the Colossus was one of my favourite games in another post and since PS2 game look like poop on a nice TV, I have been hoping for an update like this since they announced the God Of War games.

Read on to see how wonderful this set is.

Tets goes to town. On town.

Ok, I am going to have a good old whinge here.  I can’t help it, but my recent(ish) trips to the city have been kind of stupid.  If you have been reading my recent holiday posts, you will know I have just been on a little holiday.  Well, before that holiday I made a trip into the city.  I would like to point out that this would have been  the first part of September…

From Kalbarri to Denham. What an Amazing day.

We arose early and packed The Monster for it’s trip up north, saying seeya later to the fine place we called home for 2 nights.  It was pretty good too, big house, affordable and its location was brilliant!  About the only only complaint I had was that the hot water didn’t last long enough for our showers, but it recharged soon enough.  Maybe we take our showers too long anyway…

2011 Lion-O. Thundercats, WHOOOAAA!

lionohed

So after learning about the new Thundercats cartoon and watching some episodes, I have decided it is worth watching.  I liked the concept of Thundercats when it came out in the 80s, but never bothered with the cartoon, I remember having a Mumm-Ra toy at the very least.  I have since watched some of the 80s cartoon and have come to the conclusion that it is bad.  Even for an 80s cartoon.  That would be why I didn’t watch it.  Naturally the 2011 cartoon ends up being an advert for the toys, so here I have a little review for the 6” Lion-O toy.

Home arrival goodies.

What’s better than coming home after a tiring holiday?  Finding a big stash of goodies in your mailbox,

Kalbarri and it’s National Park!

Today our main plan was to go to Kalbarri National Park.  Since we had an awesome spot at the Sunset Lodge, right across from where the River meets the sea, my better half wanted to go and feed the pelicans which is a daily ritual.

Orr so we thought.  From our balcony, we saw a largeish group of people amassing at the foreshore gave us hope.  And so across the road we trundled.

From Dongara to Kalbarri

So today’s run was a big one.  Again.

Starting from Dongara, we headed off to Kalbarri, on the way after a quick stop off for supplies and some information, we headed off to the Coalseam National park, which required a trip to Eneabba.

To the Pinnacles We goooooo!

Ratchet’s travel adventures begin, about time!   Today’s adventures lead me to the interesting world of the Pinnacles and Other places for the looking at of flowers!  First of all though, as I had guests (aside from Ratchet), I was in need of a larger car.

Vehicle Force Voltron, is MINE!

VVhead
So, after many years of wishing and occasionally searching, I finally bagged me a Vehicle force Voltron!  I always preferred the vehicle version over the more popular Lion Force Voltron.  Not sure why really, probably because the way the lions all joined up was a bit silly.  Anyway, now I have got one.  It is old, this toy was made in 1982, but it is only missing one piece, which I think is pretty damn amazing!

OK, I tell a little lie.  It is the Japanese version of Vehicle Voltron, Dairugger XV.  15 Vehicles would joing up to form the robot.  Voltron was a chopped and slightly changed version of the Dairugger cartoon.  So I am quite happy to have this guy as my Voltron.

Flock me! It’s Sonic The Hedgehog

fshead

Oh I do like a good pun.  Sometimes even bad one will suffice.  Here I have a lovely little Sonic The Hedgehog by Jazwares.  This time though it is a special run one.  As part of Sonic’s 20th Anniversary this special flocked Sonic was made for the San Diego Comic con.  Wooo! Limited!  When I bought this guy, I thought I would have a real issue on my hands….

I’ve been a bad bad boy…

OMG! Simply a massive selection of totally awesome goodies arrived today!  How awesome?  Well I really hate the way people slap the word ‘totally’ into sentences as a form of exclamation, but I have used it.  That’s how awesome!

She’s strong! She’s figma Strength!!

strength heade
Yet another of the characters from Black Rock Shooter makes her way into figma form!  I was hoping this one would as the design for the character is really quite good.  I was also interested to see how it would work in toy form too.   So here we have Strength, who also happens to be BRS’s basketball coach in ‘evil form’ (I guess).

How does she compare to the likes of BRS and Black Gold Saw?

Tony Hawk T-shirt Doubletake!

Ok I was in the local shops having a look and I saw this T-shirt on a dummy (a plastic one that is) and I had a double take situation.

23082011
At first I thought it was a Sonic the Hedgehog themed t-shirt based on one of the characters from Sonic Riders who looks like a hawk.

Turns out it’s actually a Tony Hawk T-shirt.  Hmmmm, seems the designers might have used the Sonic Team log as an inspiration for this.

sonic-team-logo
There is also the Sonic & Knuckles game that uses this type of logo as well.

SNKsonicknuckles01

Hmmm, Not very original really.  I do like it if it is a homage, but I wouldn’t buy it personally.

A good day, continued!

After meeting my pal and collecting little Miku, I headed home.  On the train I was thinking about how relaxed and undistracted I was.  Interesting I thought as I contemplated life in today’s society.

Having a good day!!

Met a pal nice and early and picked up some goodies!!

IMG_8088

Booyah!  A Nendoroid Hatsune Miku of the support variety ( a fund raising thing done by Good Smile Company for the Japanese Earthquake).  Review coming soon.

And a lovely Jubbley G1 Headmaster Brainstorm, complete with Arcana. Wooooo!  NOICE Indeedy!!

Queen’s Gate Spiral Chaos and Maron = Macaron

macaronhd
I have a dodgy weakness for the girls of Queen’s Blade.  Last year a PSP game was released with a figma of the main character Cute.  This year a sequel of sorts was released.  Queen’s Gate, which is an offshoot of Queen’s Blade that involves characters from various series gathered together in the Queen’s Blade lands.

I got my hands on the special edition of the game which came with a figma figure of Maron = Macaron, a bag, and a card holder thing.  The last game came with an art book, which was a nice addition, but this one doesn’t.  Oh well.  Lets have a look shall we?

Master Piece Rodimus Prime? Hot Rod thanks!

HRhead

You could be mistaken thinking that I have covered this figure before.  Well I did in a way.  I covered the Japanese release of Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy a while back.  Hasbro had plans then to drop the trailer from that and release it for America/ the rest of the world as well.  How does it compare?

Coffee Adventures 20 August 2011

Hmm, so I see my local icecream spot near work is busting out coffee for $2.50

I am intrigued.

20082011

Things are looking good.  the $2.50 is for the smallest size, so I went a size up for $3.00.  That compares to about the same from my usual price from my popular work spot.

Things look good.  I got a bonus mini-cookie!

20082011(001)

Usual order of a Flat White.  Hey if they can’t get that right, then it’s not worth bothering with the rest hey?

Lack of froth on the top, although that isn’t a main feature of the old FW, it is nice to have.  Still, as the coffee thing for these guys is new, a bit of practice should aid in the creation of appropriate amounts of froth.

In fact the lack of froth was the only negative to this coffee.  It was hot (which can be a rarity in Perth, so sad really) and tasted pretty good.  The cup was filled up to the top, none of this half filling the take-away cups business.  The coffee tasted quite nice as well.

I see good things for the future of Wendys coffee.  Only real concern is that since it is an Ice cream place, the hot/cold conflict with coffee could see it short lived.  Most people I talked to about getting coffee from them today were hesitant due to the ice cream nature of Wendys.

I think just a bit more practice in the art of the coffee making will bode well.  Hey, if I can froth milk for a flat white, anybody can do it, it just takes a bit of practice.

Of Human behaviour and… Soup

Ok, I can understand people’s need to make life easy with the age of technology, but sometimes I just scratch my head and think “What the hell is wrong with people??”

What in the world could this be?

08082011
Aside from a large box.

Twenty Three skiddoo!

Holy Crap! This is amazing!  A few months ago, I picked up some extra EarthWorm Jim action figures and it got me all nostalgic for the cartoon again.  Sadly there was no release for it. Anywhere. In the world.

After a quick bit of activity, I had a copy *wink wink* but the quality was really really bad and since I prefer official stuff anyway, I was a bit saddened to see there was no proper release.

Until Now!

Just a couple of months ago, I discovered that it FINALLY got a proper DVD release.  AND it wasn’t released in America first!  Where?  Why humble little Australia by Madman entertainment!

HUZZAH!

Add to that awesomeness, the fact that it’s a complete set!  Normally dvds in Asutrali come out in Volumes (of three episodes)  and then they don’t release the last 2 or three volumes so you can’t finish the set.  Not the case here!

05082011

That’s a BIIIIG thumbs up from me for madman!

Thundercats Hoooooooe! Actually, Noooo…

Awesome! New Thundercats cartoon on the TV.  A quick DL later and I am watching.  Not too bad I think to myself.

I remember back to the San Diego Comic Con.  They had an exclusive Lion-O which looked pretty cool and articulated.  Wonder what the toys for the new cartoon are like…

A quick google later and I am on Big Bad toystore’s site having a look.  Oooo, general release 1980’s Lion-O, that’s convenient since I didn’t watch the cartoon, but liked the character design, I want one of them for less than the SDCC version.  Even some of the characters from the new show look cool.  Hello Cheetara, wink wink!

But alas, BBTS have a disclaimer saying that Bandai has told them these toys are for America only and any o/s orders will be cancelled.  I trotted off to another site, they had the same thing!  WHAT THE HELL?

So I did some more googling and found that generally Funtastic distribute Bandai’s goods in Australia.  No Thundercats on their website though, so I emailed asking what the go was and they replied saying they don’t necessarily do ALL of Bandai’s toys (which is fair enough) and that TC wasn’t on their list!

Booo! That sucks.  I now have little idea as to who is likely to do TC for Australia.

How am I gonna get my hands on these buggers then?  Even though I was willing to assess the Australian situation, I didn’t want to pay our stupidly ridiculously high prices for what they will probably come out as.  Still, I guess eBay would be cheaper than local retail anyway.

Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats, NOOOOOOO!( T ) for Australia!

Might email US Bandai and see how that goes hey? All this effort for one (maybe two) classic figures…

A Dangerous Precedent, Aya Shameimaru…

ayahd
Ok, I got a statue.  It isn’t an action figure… It’s a statue. I have plainly refused to bother with statues, stemming from my Transformer collecting, after all, if it doesn’t transform, it isn’t a Transformer and on that same note if it doesn’t move then it isn’t a toy.  However I saw this one of Aya from the Touhou Project series and it kind of grew on me.

And so I have my first statue from Kotobukiya.  Hopefully not the first of many.

In the mail today…

A little selection I am really pleased showed up!
IMG_7663

It’s figma Kuroneko and the Queen’s Gate Spiral Chaos game for the PSP.  One I have been looking forward to recieving as I have the first game and it’s pretty damn fun!  Plus it comes with the “Magical Patisserie Maron=Macaron!” figma figure!  A character created for the game, much like Cute from the first game!

The Stunticon’s director: Wildrider

Wildrdhed
Wildrider, the last of the Stunticons to be typed up for my blog.  I never quite dug Wildrider when he was kicking it with his G1 fellows.  Not too sure why.  I should really as I did end up with him somehow and his personality, like his name, is completely crazy, much like my favourite Battlecharger Runamuck (who is part of next years TFCC figures!!).  They would probably go together quite nicely really.  Hmmm.

Stunticon’s Femme fatale; Dragstrip

DRThd
Dragstrip here uses the Animated Arcee body.  Concerns were first raised that the ‘drag’ on Dragstrip may well relate to dressing in drag.  Luckily, despite the OTCC’s fascination with trying to be  ‘clever,’  they made Dragstrip a girl Transformer.  Well as much as robots with no sex can be…

Breakdown of the Stunticons.

dehd
Oh, Breakdown.  Probably my favourite Stunticon of the lot.  I picked the G1 version of this guy up from somewhere when I was younger and since his G1 mode was a a Lamborghini style car I really liked it more than the others.  So it’s appropriate that the same body that was used for Animated Sideswipe (whose G1 form was also a Lamborghini) is used for Breakdown.
